Sase caini CST vor putea calatori in siguranta. Multumim!

      CST Team

    About the project

    Who we are

A dog is a man’s best friend, and, because the most amazing things are done together with your friends, we took our pets from their comfortable sofas and decided that, together, we can do something for the people around us. Everything started with the passion of two people who saw in dogs the immense potential they have in search and rescue (SAR) missions assisted by dogs. Along the years other people joined Oana and Calin Ciora in this journey of preparing dogs for the search of missing persons.

In a complex receipt, we mixed the passion and the enthusiasm we have and our four legged friends, to which we added a lot of work and 90% of our spare time, and the result is Asociatia pentru Caini de Salvare Transilvania (Transylvania Rescue Dogs Association). CST, the most know acronym for it, is an NGO that started in August 2011. On our way back from a training session outside of Cluj, people, dogs and luggage loaded in 4-5 cars, all of us tired after a long day of work – we were all discussing about the same thing: we were all determined to work together to prepare teams assisted by dogs for the search and rescue of missing persons. We were looking for a name for our organization, we were calling each other with various versions and, by the time we got back in Cluj, the organization which was about to become our second family already had a name: CST. Currently, the organization has 15 active members, each of us training together with his/her dog.

Our dogs come from all backgrounds, colors and breeds: they are German Shepherds, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Schnauzers, Great Danes, and Belgian Malinois. The people also come from various fields: engineers, economists, IT, veterinarians, and students. The afternoons, the holidays and other periods that we manage to “steal” from our spare time, are all spent together with our colleagues and dogs on the training field.

    What we do

We know that including teams assisted by dogs in the search missions can dramatically increase the success rate of such missions by simply reducing the needed search times for a potential victim.

Therefore, wework hardin order to be able to offer a real support to the authorities during search and rescue missions and we want to become a decisive factor for these missions. We are trying to create a proper environment for people interested in SAR work to be able to find information and to be able to train for this purpose, thus facilitating a serious and professional training climate for the SAR teams.

We work hardtogether with our dogs on the obedience field, in the woods or in deserted buildings, under any weather conditions. We are a special group of people for which an abandoned building has a special charm, as we see in it endless possibilities to simulate a real life search. We have regular trainings with the team, 3 times a week, and we take part in national and international camps and workshops, where we train together with people with a lot of experience in the field. We cooperate with a lot of SAR organizations, both in Romania and in Europe (the Romanian Police National Training Center for working dogs – “Dr. Aurel Greblea”http://www.centrulchinologic.ro,ÖRV Austria (Österreichische Rasse Hunde Verein ) -http://www.hunde-oerv.at, ÖRHB Austria (Österreichische Rettungshundebrigade -http://www.oerhb.at/), because the training never ends, it is always work in progress and the value that the SAR specialists bring cannot be equaled by anything else. We are also cooperating with the Romanian authorities, namely with the Institutions that are involved in emergency situations (The Emergency Situations Inspectorate – ISU, The Public Mountain Rescue organizations, and the County Gendarmerie Inspectorates).

And, after hundreds of hours of work, when we believe that we have a team and a dog that are well prepared, we attend international exams which are validating the readiness level for each team. Up to date we have 7 such certified teams.

    We save people

So that we can be where we are needed, we have cooperation protocols in place with all the Public Institutions that have authority to intervene in emergency situations (ISU – The Emergency Situations Inspectorate, The Public Mountain Rescue organizations, and the County Gendarmerie Inspectorates). Since coming to life, our organization took part in numerous workshops, international exams, emergency intervention simulations and, above all, to 8 real life search and rescue missions, two of which were successful in finding the missing persons alive. We are proud to say that, due to CST, people are alive!

    We educate

We make progress and we continuously improve in our work and mission due the joint effort of the entire team, but we also fully benefit from the experience and knowledge of international specialists. Therefore, we only wish to be able to pass on to others our own experience. We want to show to everyone that a SAR dog is not just a movie character, but a real presence that can help. We love dogs and we love Cluj Napoca! We are helping people around to see and to understand the value a dog can bring in everyone’s life. Whether they are work dogs or “simple” pets, the educated dogs can make our lives richer. In order to support this statement, CST is involved in a number of events for the public and mostly for the children. Every year we organize the “Animals’ Hyperparade”, contests that are part of the “A Different School” programs and workshops, while we also take part in many training demonstrations.

How we will use the funds we will raise? (10,000 RON)

We want to buy a special trailer for transporting dogs.

Currently, our dogs are travelling in cars’ trunks or in transportation crates, together with the luggage. We want to be able to offer them the comfort they deserve during our travels, as well as to offer the safety they need during transportation, so that, when we travel to a search mission or to a training camp, they will no longer be tired after a long ride. The trailers have special facilities for dog travel, with individual rooms for each dog, rooms that are [properly ventilated during transport and as the vehicle is stopped. They can be properly locked to ensure safety and they have special storing locations for the dogs’ accessories. Such facilities are common for any SAR team in the world and we hope that, soon enough, CST will be able to ensure that these special dogs have all the respect they deserve when travelling. Having thus more rested dogs, CST will also be able to act faster and more efficiently and, last but not least, we would be really proud of your support!
